Charitable Gift Annuity

Charitable Gift Annuity
Since graduating from Shippensburg State College in 1961, Anne Sohland Richards has had a full life filled with a loving family and a successful career. During her tenure at SSC, Anne had many positive influences, including the mentorship of Professors Kaluger, Cox, and Mowery. Each, in very powerful ways, shaped Anne's life in a healthy direction, modeling professional and personal integrity. Indeed they are still guiding her today.

One of Anne's most memorable experiences came during her freshman year. As an only child, being assigned to a four "girl" room her freshman year was a real eye-opener and led to strong friendships. Over the years she has stayed in touch with those life-long friends from Shippensburg as they have continued to gather every summer for more than twenty years. So when her 50th reunion year came up in 2011, Anne, a retired English teacher and counselor, took the opportunity to reconnect with her alma mater.

That connection has continued as Anne and her husband Elton recently established a gift annuity with the SU Foundation for the benefit of Shippensburg University. The gift will be unrestricted as Anne and Elton believe in the mission of the university and that with unrestricted gifts their dollars are able to support the most current needs of the institution.

Anne still believes there are caring faculty members at Shippensburg like the ones she had when she was a student. And so her desire is to make sure that the next generation of students has the same opportunities to be shaped by mentors and friendships that will guide those students into their own successful futures.
