Charitable Gift Annuity

Charitable Gift Annuity
From kindergarten to high school, Darby Muggio '60 was inspired by teachers. So it is no surprise that when she headed off to college, the first in her family to do so, she studied to be one. While attending Ship, Darby was mentored by Professors Peightel, Eastep, and Kaluger among others. Because of the relationships with fellow students and support from professors like these, her ties to Ship are firmly anchored. "People at Ship are kinder, more generous and caring than you find in the bigger world," Darby said.

While her husband, Joseph, completed his studies, Darby taught in the Shippensburg school district. Upon his graduation in 1965, she began what would become a twenty-six year career as an educator in the Central Dauphin School District. There she taught second grade, then first grade, before moving to kindergarten.

Working with the family finances after Joseph's passing in 2001, Darby felt the time was right to acknowledge the support she received from a SICO scholarship that made her college attendance possible. With financial and legal advice, she established the Darby D. and Joseph H. Muggio Scholarship for students in the College of Education and Human Services. Her immediate funding of the scholarship allows her to enjoy meeting the students who benefit from her generosity. She also set up a Charitable Gift Annuity that benefits her now with income and later benefits the scholarship.
